Vidyarambh, the beginning of learning, is a cherished sanskar in which the child worships Goddess Saraswati and Lord Ganesh before writing their first letters. In North Indian tradition the child writes "Om" or "Shri Ganeshaya Namah" on a patti (slate), starting a lifelong journey of learning with joy.

When it is performed

It is usually performed between the ages of two and five, on Vasant Panchami, Vijayadashami or another auspicious day.

What the ceremony involves

The pandit performs Ganesh puja and Saraswati puja and a sankalp in the child's name. The slate, chalk, books and pens are worshipped, and the child, guided by a parent or the pandit, writes the first letters. The ceremony ends with aarti and blessings.

Formats and languages

Vidyarambham/Patti Pujan can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Hindi tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
