Why devotees choose Mundan/Chudakarana
Chudakarana, popularly called Mundan, is one of the sixteen sanskars. The hair from birth is shaved and offered with prayers, symbolising a fresh start. Many North Indian families perform it at a holy place such as a riverbank or temple, while others prefer a puja at home.
When it is performed
It is usually performed in the first, third or fifth year, on a muhurat chosen from the child's nakshatra and the panchang.
What the ceremony involves
The pandit performs Ganesh puja, Navgraha puja and a sankalp, and a small havan may be performed. The barber shaves the child's head, often leaving a small tuft (shikha), and the hair is offered to a river or the family deity. Turmeric or sandalwood paste is applied and the child is blessed.
Formats and languages
Mundan/Chudakarana can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Hindi tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.
How booking works
Planning starts with a short enquiry. Our team checks priest availability for your tradition and language, proposes a muhurta, shares a clear list of inclusions and samagri, and confirms the total. Nothing is booked or charged until you agree.
Questions families ask
Can this pooja be done online?
For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
Is samagri included?
The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
A note on faith and expectations
Every ceremony is offered as an act of devotion. Results in health, wealth, relationships or legal matters cannot be promised, and professional advice should always be sought where it is needed.
