Why devotees choose Upakarma

Upakarma is the yearly day on which those who wear the yajnopavita replace it and recommit to Vedic study, with prayers of atonement and gratitude to the rishis. Following the correct shakha matters: Rigvedis, Yajurvedis and Samavedis observe Upakarma on different days.

When it is performed

Yajurvedis observe it on Shravana Purnima, Rigvedis usually on Shravana nakshatra in the month of Shravana, and Samavedis on Hasta nakshatra in Bhadrapada, as the priest confirms each year.

What the ceremony involves

The priest guides the kamo-karshit japa, maha sankalpa, the wearing of the new yajnopavita, Rishi Tarpana and the Vedarambha, in person or on a live call. A list of materials, including the new thread and darbha, is shared in advance.

Formats and languages

Upakarma can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Kannada tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

How booking works

Send an enquiry with your city, preferred dates and language. A coordinator confirms a suitable priest, the muhurta, the samagri list, what is included and the final price. You approve the plan before any payment is requested.

Questions families ask

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.

A note on faith and expectations

Pooja and homam are practised for devotion, gratitude and inner steadiness. They do not replace qualified professional advice, and no outcome is promised.
