Why devotees choose Annaprasana
Annaprasana is one of the sixteen samskaras described in the Grihya Sutras. It marks the baby's transition from milk to solid food, and the family gives thanks for the child's growth so far. Grandparents and elders feed the first spoonful of rice or payasam with prayers for a nourished, contented life.
When it is performed
Traditionally it is held around the sixth month. Many families follow even months for boys and odd months for girls, and the day is chosen from the baby's birth star and a favourable muhurta.
What the ceremony involves
The priest begins with Ganapati pooja and a sankalpa in the child's name, then offers worship to the family deity. Cooked rice, ghee and payasam are offered and blessed, and the father or an elder gives the baby the first taste. Some families add a playful choice in which the baby picks from books, gold or tools.
Formats and languages
Annaprasana can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Kannada, Tamil and Telugu traditions can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.
How booking works
Tell us the occasion, location and dates that suit your family. We match a priest who follows your tradition, confirm timings and materials, and send a written plan with the final price. You decide only when everything is clear.
Questions families ask
Can this pooja be done online?
For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
Is samagri included?
The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
A note on faith and expectations
Pooja and homam are practised for devotion, gratitude and inner steadiness. They do not replace qualified professional advice, and no outcome is promised.
