Udaka Shanti ("peace through water") is a Vedic ritual in which priests chant shanti mantras over water in a kalasha, charging it with sacredness. It is performed before upanayanam, weddings and housewarmings, and also to restore peace at home after a difficult period. It is common in the Telugu and Marathi traditions.

When it is performed

It is performed before samskaras such as upanayanam and vivaha, at gruhapravesam, on birthdays and whenever the family seeks peace.

What the ceremony involves

After Ganapathi pooja and a sankalpa, kalashas are installed and Vedic priests chant the Udaka Shanti mantras from the Krishna Yajurveda, along with shanti and rakshoghna mantras. The sanctified water is sprinkled over the family and through the home, and a little is taken as tirtham.

Formats and languages

Udaka Shanti can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Marathi and Telugu traditions can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
