Thithi (Devasam)

Thithi, or Devasam, marks the anniversary of a loved one's passing by the lunar calendar, a day of remembrance, offerings and prayer.

Why devotees choose Thithi

The thithi is calculated from the lunar day on which a person passed away, so it moves on the solar calendar each year. Observing it with offerings and prayers is how families keep the memory of their parents and elders alive and seek their blessings for the generations that follow.

When it is performed

It falls every year on the lunar tithi and month of the passing. The priest helps calculate the correct date, which can differ from the calendar anniversary.

What the ceremony involves

According to the family's tradition, the observance can include the full srardham, a simpler tarpanam with sesame and water, or annadhanam. The priest guides the karta through the sankalpa and offerings, and the family shares prayers and a meal.

Formats and languages

Thithi (Devasam) can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Tamil tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

How booking works

Send an enquiry with your city, preferred dates and language. A coordinator confirms a suitable priest, the muhurta, the samagri list, what is included and the final price. You approve the plan before any payment is requested.

Questions families ask

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.

A note on faith and expectations
