Why devotees choose Swarna Gowri Vratha
Tradition says Goddess Gowri comes to her parental home on Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya, followed the next day by her son Ganesha, who comes to take her back. Kannada women observe Swarna Gowri Vrata for the wellbeing of their families and a happy married life, and married daughters are especially welcomed home.
When it is performed
It is observed on Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya, the day before Ganesha Chaturthi, usually in August or September.
What the ceremony involves
An idol of Gowri is installed and decorated, and the priest guides the sankalpa, shodashopachara pooja and vrata katha. Women tie the sixteen-knot sacred thread (gowri dara), and bagina, a tray of turmeric, kumkum, bangles, rice, dal, jaggery and a blouse piece, is offered to married women.

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
