Why devotees choose Sumangali Pooja
In Tamil and Kannada families, Sumangali Pooja honours married women as embodiments of the Goddess. It also remembers the sumangalis of earlier generations who have passed away, so that their blessings rest on the family. It is often performed before a wedding or an important family event.
When it is performed
It is usually held a few days before a wedding, upanayanam or other important ceremony, on an auspicious day and often a Friday.
What the ceremony involves
Invited married women (an odd number, often five, seven or nine) are welcomed, offered new sarees or blouse pieces, and given turmeric, kumkum, flowers and bangles. A special meal is served, the departed sumangalis are remembered with prayers, and the women bless the family.
Formats and languages
Sumangali Pooja can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Kannada and Tamil traditions can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.
How booking works
Send an enquiry with your city, preferred dates and language. A coordinator confirms a suitable priest, the muhurta, the samagri list, what is included and the final price. You approve the plan before any payment is requested.
Questions families ask
Can this pooja be done online?
For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
Is samagri included?
The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
A note on faith and expectations
Pooja and homam are practised for devotion, gratitude and inner steadiness. They do not replace qualified professional advice, and no outcome is promised.
