Why devotees choose Namkaran Puja
Namkaran is the sanskar that formally gives a baby their name. Many families choose a name whose first letter matches the baby's nakshatra, while others honour a deity or a beloved elder. The ceremony introduces the baby to the family and the divine with blessings for a long, happy life.
When it is performed
It is traditionally held on the eleventh or twelfth day after birth, or on a later auspicious day, at a muhurat chosen by the pandit.
What the ceremony involves
The pandit performs Ganesh puja, Punyahvachan (purification) and Navgraha puja, often followed by a small havan. The father or an elder whispers the name into the baby's right ear, it is written on a plate of rice, and elders bless the child. In Marathi families the naming is often celebrated with the barsa ceremony.
Formats and languages
Namkaran Puja can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Hindi and Marathi traditions can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.
How booking works
Tell us the occasion, location and dates that suit your family. We match a priest who follows your tradition, confirm timings and materials, and send a written plan with the final price. You decide only when everything is clear.
Questions families ask
Can this pooja be done online?
For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
Is samagri included?
The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
A note on faith and expectations
Every ceremony is offered as an act of devotion. Results in health, wealth, relationships or legal matters cannot be promised, and professional advice should always be sought where it is needed.
