Why devotees choose Naamakaranam
Naamakaranam is the samskara that formally gives a child their name. Parents often choose a name linked to the birth star, the family deity or a cherished elder, and the ceremony introduces the child to the wider family with blessings for a long and happy life.
When it is performed
Many families hold it on the eleventh, twelfth or sixteenth day after birth, while others choose a later auspicious day. The priest suggests a muhurta based on the baby's birth star.
What the ceremony involves
After Ganapati pooja and punyahavachanam (a purification of the home), the father or an elder whispers the chosen name into the baby's right ear. The name is often written on rice in a plate, and the family offers prayers to the family deity and the nine planets before aarti and blessings.
Formats and languages
Naamakaranam can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Kannada and Tamil traditions can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.
How booking works
Send an enquiry with your city, preferred dates and language. A coordinator confirms a suitable priest, the muhurta, the samagri list, what is included and the final price. You approve the plan before any payment is requested.
Questions families ask
Can this pooja be done online?
For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
Is samagri included?
The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
A note on faith and expectations
Pooja and homam are practised for devotion, gratitude and inner steadiness. They do not replace qualified professional advice, and no outcome is promised.
