Goddess Mangala Gowri is the auspicious form of Parvati, worshipped for marital happiness and the welfare of the family. In Karnataka, newly married women traditionally observe this vrata for the first five years after marriage, with the guidance of elders and a priest.

When it is performed

It is observed on the Tuesdays of Shravana masa, usually in July and August.

What the ceremony involves

Goddess Gowri is installed and decorated, and the priest guides the sankalpa, shodashopachara pooja and vrata katha. Sixteen offerings are made, an arati of lamps made from dough is performed, and bagina (an offering of auspicious items) is given to married women.

Mangala Gowri Vratha can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Kannada tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
