Lingarchana means the worship of the Shiva linga. In Maha Lingarchana, devotees shape many small lingas from clay, rice flour or other pure materials and worship them together, which is considered especially meritorious. Families perform it for Shiva's grace, the welfare of the family and the peace of departed ancestors.

When it is performed

Kartika masam, Kartika Mondays, Maha Shivaratri, Shravana masam and Masa Shivaratri are especially auspicious.

What the ceremony involves

The lingas are arranged on a sacred platform. After Ganapathi pooja and a sankalpa, priests chant Sri Rudram while the lingas receive abhishekam with water, milk and panchamritam, and are worshipped with bilva leaves, flowers and vibhuti. The worship ends with aarti and visarjana (immersion) in the traditional way.

Formats and languages

Maha Lingarchana can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Telugu tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
