The srardham is the sacred duty of offering to departed parents and ancestors. Hiranya Srardham, using uncooked grains, vegetables and dakshina (hiranya), is a form recognised by tradition when the full ritual with a cooked meal cannot be arranged, for instance during travel or on specific occasions.
When it is performed
It is performed on a death anniversary, during Mahalaya Paksha or on other days of ancestral rites, as advised by the family priest.
What the ceremony involves
The priest guides the karta (the performer) through the sankalpa and tarpanam with sesame and water, and the uncooked provisions, cloth and dakshina are given to the priest or Brahmins. The family offers prayers for the peace of the ancestors.

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
