Why devotees choose Godh Bharai Puja

Godh Bharai, meaning "filling the lap," celebrates the expectant mother and welcomes the baby into the family's love. Elders and women of the family bless the mother, pray for a safe delivery and a healthy child, and shower her with gifts. It is closely related to the Seemantonnayan sanskar.

When it is performed

It is usually held in the seventh month of pregnancy, or as per family custom, on an auspicious day.

What the ceremony involves

The pandit performs Ganesh puja and a short sankalp for mother and child. The mother is seated in a place of honour, and women of the family fill her lap (godh) with coconut, fruits, dry fruits and sweets, apply tilak and give gifts and blessings, followed by songs and a meal.

Formats and languages

Godh Bharai Puja can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Hindi tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

How booking works

Send an enquiry with your city, preferred dates and language. A coordinator confirms a suitable priest, the muhurta, the samagri list, what is included and the final price. You approve the plan before any payment is requested.

Questions families ask

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
