Why devotees choose Engagement/Sakharpuda
Sakharpuda, literally "packet of sugar," symbolises the sweetness the two families hope to share. It is the formal engagement in Maharashtrian tradition, when the families publicly commit to the marriage and the bride is welcomed with gifts. A Ganpati puja at the start invites blessings on the wedding to come.
When it is performed
It is held a few weeks or months before the wedding, on an auspicious day chosen from the panchang.
What the ceremony involves
The purohit performs Ganpati puja and a sankalp. The groom's family presents the bride with a packet of sugar, a green saree and jewellery, women of the family perform the oti bharan by filling the bride's lap with rice, coconut and blouse pieces, and rings are exchanged before the celebration.
Formats and languages
Engagement/Sakharpuda can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Marathi tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.
How booking works
Planning starts with a short enquiry. Our team checks priest availability for your tradition and language, proposes a muhurta, shares a clear list of inclusions and samagri, and confirms the total. Nothing is booked or charged until you agree.
Questions families ask
Can this pooja be done online?
For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
Is samagri included?
The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
A note on faith and expectations
Pooja and homam are practised for devotion, gratitude and inner steadiness. They do not replace qualified professional advice, and no outcome is promised.
