Barasala (Namakaranam)

Barasala is the joyful Telugu naming ceremony: the baby's name is revealed, the cradle is blessed and the whole family welcomes the newest member.

Why devotees choose Barasala

In Telugu homes, Barasala is the day the baby is formally named and introduced to the family. It combines the Namakaranam samskara with the cradle ceremony (uyyala), in which the baby is placed in a decorated cradle while women sing traditional lullabies.

When it is performed

It is traditionally held on the twenty-first day after birth, though many families choose the eleventh day or another auspicious date suggested by the priest.

What the ceremony involves

After Ganapathi pooja and punyahavachanam to purify the home, the father whispers the chosen name into the baby's ear, and the name is written in a plate of rice. The baby is then placed in the decorated cradle, and elders bless the child with akshintalu (turmeric rice) before a family meal.

Formats and languages

Barasala (Namakaranam) can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Telugu tradition can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.

How booking works

Planning starts with a short enquiry. Our team checks priest availability for your tradition and language, proposes a muhurta, shares a clear list of inclusions and samagri, and confirms the total. Nothing is booked or charged until you agree.

Questions families ask

Can this pooja be done online?

For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.

Is samagri included?

The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.

A note on faith and expectations

Pooja and homam are practised for devotion, gratitude and inner steadiness. They do not replace qualified professional advice, and no outcome is promised.
