Why devotees choose Aksharabhyasam
Aksharabhyasam marks the formal start of a child's education. Guided by the priest, the child traces "Om" and the first letters of the alphabet in rice or turmeric while the family prays to Saraswati, goddess of learning, and Ganapati, remover of obstacles. Many parents see it as the most memorable first step on a lifelong path of learning.
When it is performed
It is usually performed between the ages of two and five. Vijayadashami, Vasant Panchami and other auspicious days chosen with the help of a priest are popular, and the exact muhurta is set from the child's birth star.
What the ceremony involves
The ceremony begins with Ganapati pooja and a sankalpa in the child's name, followed by Saraswati pooja. The child is seated on a parent's lap and guided to write the first letters on a plate of rice, with slates, books and pens blessed for the years ahead. It ends with aarti and blessings from elders.
Formats and languages
Aksharabhyasam can be arranged at your home, or online with live participation where the ritual allows it. Priests who follow the Kannada, Tamil and Telugu traditions can be requested, and the chanting language and regional procedure are confirmed before the date is fixed.
How booking works
Tell us the occasion, location and dates that suit your family. We match a priest who follows your tradition, confirm timings and materials, and send a written plan with the final price. You decide only when everything is clear.
Questions families ask
Can this pooja be done online?
For many poojas, homams and paths, yes: the priest performs the ritual with your sankalpa (names, gotra and intention) while you join by video. Ceremonies that need the family present, such as a housewarming, wedding or samskara, are held in person, and relatives who live elsewhere can join by video.
Is samagri included?
The written plan lists every item the priest brings and anything your family needs to arrange, so there are no surprises on the day.
