Online poojas let families take part in sacred rituals from anywhere, whether you live abroad, cannot travel or want to include relatives in other cities. A good online pooja feels as personal as one at home, but only when the details are agreed in advance. Use this checklist before you book.
Understand the service format
“Online pooja” can mean several different things: a live ceremony performed with the customer on a video call, a temple or priest performing on the customer's behalf, a recorded service delivered later, or a guided ceremony in which the customer performs selected steps at home. Ask which format is being offered and what participation is expected. A livestream link alone does not explain whether the service is personal, shared, interactive or pre-recorded.
Verify the people and place
Confirm the responsible provider, proposed priest and physical place where the ritual will occur. If the page refers to a temple, verify the exact venue and whether the provider is authorised to arrange the stated service there. Ask whether the ceremony is private or grouped with other requests and how the sankalpa will identify participants. Illustrative images should not be understood as evidence of a particular priest, temple relationship or previously completed ceremony.
Coordinate timing and technology
Record the date, time, time zone, expected duration and joining instructions. Test the platform, camera, microphone and internet connection before the scheduled start. Ask what happens if either side loses connectivity, whether an alternate phone number is available and how much delay is allowed. If relatives join from different countries, circulate one time-zone-confirmed schedule and nominate one person to communicate with the provider.
Prepare names and materials privately
Provide only the participant details that the priest says are necessary, using a private channel rather than a public comment or group. Check spellings and pronunciation. Request a short home samagri list if participants will light a lamp, offer flowers or perform another step. Follow fire safety and building rules. If the priest performs all physical offerings remotely, clarify whether any materials, prasad or blessed items will be sent afterward.
Clarify privacy and recording
Ask whether the session is recorded, who can access the video, how long it is retained and whether any clip may be used publicly. Every visible or audible participant should understand the arrangement. If recording is not part of the service, do not assume that it will be available after a technical failure. For group services, ask whether participant names or images may be visible to other customers.
Confirm fulfilment and remedies
Before payment, the final plan should state what constitutes completion: a live session, a recording, photographs, a temple receipt, prasad dispatch or another agreed item. Confirm delivery method, expected timing, shipping limits and what happens if the assigned priest, venue or schedule changes. Review the final price, taxes, platform charges and cancellation or rescheduling terms. Spiritual participation is a matter of personal belief; the service should never be sold with a guaranteed medical, financial or relationship result.
